Or is it? Why yes it is, but in point of fact it doesn't exactly exist yet. Starfall is a weyr that I created for another forum writing board that fizzled out for lack of players. I know a lot of Lackey fans are McCaffrey fans and thought I'd pitch Starfall to you all here. What it would be... Forum based like HoV is, proboards and all. It's an Alternate 9th Pass, mostly canon weyr. It is set in the Southern Continent in the mountain range that dominates the center of that continent. General rules are very similar to here but with obvious alterations to fit Pern and with the understanding that until the weyr is up and running the persona limits would be much more lax. Plus everyone here would be 'grandfathered' in terms of 'priveleges' cause I already know how you folks play and how active you all are. I would be looking for at least 2 other BoD's (Board of Directors) for the RP since I can not run these things alone. While I do have a basic set-up for StarFall already created it is completely mallable and would be altered as the selected BoD likes to make it better for our players. So... Is anyone interested at all? If so I'll post up some of the background and such I've created and we'll see who's more specifically interested. Just reply here And don't feel bad if you can't handle more RP worlds right now, I don't want anyone feeling overwhelmed or obligated. And if being BoD sounds fun to you, mention that too.

I'd have to brush up on my Pern knowledge (it's been a while since I've read the books), but once I'm done my April exams I'd be interested in joining. And being BoD would be interesting, although if it kicks off before I'm really available and there's others, then please feel free to pass me over on that.

Mostly what he said BUT, tomorrow is my last day of classes. And then have LARPing this weekend, then I move out of my dorm, then I go to NorWesCon - and then I have spare time!!! (in theory, anyway) I make a decently good Mod, I think, even when I'm not actively posting any of my charries I check the boards several times a day unless I don't have internet that day. (On the other hand my frequent bouts of stress-induced writers block extends to developing plot lines and playing NPCs too). But I'm pretty sure I will be able to add another game to my life after Easter.

*grins* It's a very gender neutral name, isn't it? She (no offense taken, none meant to be given!)

Ooooh Oooooh...I'm interested. *misses dragons* I'd be interested in being on the BoD too, I love making clutches. But I won't be crushed if I'm not. I'm on spring break right now, so very bored, and then, after the first week of may, I'll have almost nothing to do.

Well just so we're clear... BoD does not always mean goldrider. It's possible but it's not a given. For starters there will only be one breeding gold for a while. I've been in clobs overrun with too many gold for the small amount of players, and clubs that have only 2-3 golds for a very healthy and active group. While I will consider a non-breeding gold along with the Weyrwoman of the weyr I want to make sure it's clear that golds will be few and far between and only when we have enough players and PC other colors to support more than one breeder. Now having said that... I'm also aware that making the clutches different each time is not easy (been there done that) and I will be looking for more than one person to 'make' the clutches, but it will only be for one PC character. A clutch assistant or two if you will, helping to keep clutches fresh and exciting. And that job may or may not rest with an actual BoD member, the willingness and ability to assist with this and other similar types of projects will be a bonus in my deciding the other intial BoD members. Now why do I say initial BoD? Because I've also learned that allowing a BoD to change can help keep a weyr fresh. So the other two BoD positions will be open for club-wide nomination and vote every so often. Probably once a RL year. Now when elections start up, the current members may run again and continue to do so anytime they want. After the initial start-up though of people that I already know and am familiar with, new folks coming in 'off the street/web' will have to be members for at least 6 months before running for BoD. So at the moment we have 3 takers... We need at least 6 folks total to really start something like a weyr off well. So I'll post some more in a moment to see if the general setting of the weyr entices anyone else. (provided my discourse in this post hasn't put you off ))

Forgive me.. I misremembered a bit... Starfall is a 10th Pass Weyr, using a slightly altered 9th Pass timeline. Following is the initial Setting I have for the weyr, this is alterable by the new group/BoD, within some limits of course.
SETTING: 100 years AFTER 'All the Weyrs of Pern'. 1st Turn of 10th Pass The attempt to change the Red Stars course failed, though it is only now as the dreaded star once more approaches that the people of Pern have realized this, thanks to the newest craft on Pern, Starcraft. A new 10th Pass is about to begin. Dragonriders are scattered all over the Southern Continent, and too few remain in the traditional Weyrs of the North. Now the dragonriders must rally once more to save Pern from the dreaded menace of Threadfall, after years of holder ridicule and demeaning attitudes. Can the relatively newly formed Starfall Weyr, on the western side of the Southern Continent, gain enough members to fight their traditional enemy? Only time will tell as dragonriders trickle in from individual holdings to once more rally around a Weyr banner. Will it be soon enough? Threadfall is expected to begin in a mere 5 sevendays.
History of Starfall Weyr: Built about 30 Turns ago primarily as a Starcraft Hall and small Weyrhold to provide transport and other services to the Hall. Expanded to a nearly traditional size weyr 10 turns ago when the first warning of the Red Star's return surfaced. The Weyrleaders began actively seeking transfers to Starfall 3 Turns ago when the Red Star's return became undeniable.

One more post to generate interst then I think I might just start this up anyway... Locale description, in part-
The Infirmary is set into the base of the cliffs of the weyr, on the right side if you are facing the lake and Hatching Cavern. It is located next to the Weyrling Barracks on the end of the inhabited areas. The main opening is easily large enough to accommodate a full grown gold. Inside there are 2 areas large enough for a gold or bronze dragon and another 5 for the smaller colors. Most dragons do NOT stay inside the infirmary, only if they are not able to get up to their weyrs and for some reason MUST be kept under shelter. Beyond the dragon area is a human sized infirmary that can handle several dozen humans if need be, but again riders do not tend to stay in the infirmary unless there is no other choice. Inner hallways do run from the Infirmary behind the Weyrling Barracks and into the Lower Caverns so that it is not necessary to go outside in bad weather to get to the Infirmary. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Starfall Lake is fed by a large waterfall that breaks the cliff face nearly in half. The lake is easily large enough for a dozen dragons to swim in at a time, and it empties via the river, which passes down through the rest of Star Valley before disappearing into the mountains once more near the Pass. There are several bridges spanning the river at various points in the valley, including 3 within the weyr bowl itself, all three of which are stone and can handle wagon and dragonet traffic. The Weyr Bowl consists of about half the valley, beginning at the cliff face housing the Hatching Cavern and continuing down the valley for about 400 dragonlengths. In most places it is about 50 dragon lengths wide on either side of the river. The river is about 10 dragonlengths wide. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Baby Weyrling barracks is a very long room with couches of varied sizes for the dragonets. The largest couches for gold weyrlings are closest to the main entrance (leading directly outside) and they go back into the room working down through the sizes and thereby the colors. There is a rushes bed, and clothing press next to each dragon couch for the riders. At the back of the barracks are the communal bathing rooms, split by gender. There are several openings as well on the left (if facing into the barracks) that lead into the Juniors barracks. The Junior Weyrling barracks are larger than the baby barracks. The set-up is essentially the same except that all the dragon couches are bigger. The Senior Weyrlings, which is determined by when the dragons begin flying well, share weyrs. Two dragonets per weyr, each weyr is size appropriate to various color pairs. Generally weyrlings are paired by same dragon color but not always, and some allowances are made for pairing genders together when appropriate. The human part of the weyr is just like a normal weyr except with a larger bedroom with two small beds instead of a large one. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Dining Hall is a large enclosed room that can seat about 400 people at full capacity. Meals in a weyr however are not that regularly schedule due to the way duty rosters fall. There are 3 planned mealtimes when the Weyr staff and non-riders or weyrlings will eat, but food is always kept hot and waiting for the on-duty riders to be able to eat whenever they have the time to. The Lower Caverns are made up of the Kitchens, the Storerooms, the Headwoman's Office, Candidate Master's office, Weyrling Master's Office and the various inner hallways between all of the ground level rooms and barracks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Hatching Caverns are huge to say the least. Easily big enough to accommodate two gold dragons and their clutches of eggs, though two on the Sands at once is rare. The main area is much like a huge sand pit and is referred to as the Sands. The sand itself is very hot and easily enough to burn a person if they were foolish enough to stand on it without protective footwear for more than a couple minutes. The Tiers are stone benches, much like steps only larger, cut into the side of the cavern and up several levels, they can accommodate around 400 people. Above the human Tiers is row after row of ledges that accommodates the dragons of the weyr that wish to attend the hatchings, up to 300 or so dragons can squeeze in if they really want to. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Starsmith Hall of Starfall territory is located on the top of the mountains above the hatching caverns of Starfall Weyr. The Hall is built into the mountainside, much like a weyr but with a very large open plateau of rock from which the Starcrafters can observe the skies unhindered. Overall the Hall has 3 levels- Lower Caverns, Classrooms and Personal quarters. The Observation plateau is opened onto from the classroom level. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Starfall Hold is a massive structure of 3 stories, made of stone and sprawling widely. Built in a very open style it is inviting to look at despite its size. Surrounded by fields of crops on two sides, beast fields on a third and the ocean beaches on the fourth it is a very diverse locale. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Starfall Hold is the Main Hold in Starfall territory. There are 2 minor Holds and many cotholds beholden to it. The Hold itself is located to the west of the large forest that is north of Starfall Weyr. The Starsmith Hall is nestled on the highest mountain peak just beyond the weyr. A small narrow road leads down from it to the Weyr itself.

Actually to tell the truth...I don't like playing golds...I'd rather have blues and browns...but I do like making egg pictures..I actually have some finished ones that I didn't use...I can send 'em to you if you want them.

Greens, Blues and Browns we'll have aplenty. And for the itme being there will be only one gold and she is mine, as much as I dislike 'hogging' the singular gold, she will not remain the only one. But I've seen sooo many groups go awry with owners who don't take control of at least one of the Weyrleaders, and I've never been a bronze person myself. Which is not to say that my gold will always be weyrwoman, should the group grow and thrive to that point she is actually on the older side and will step down eventually.
But once we have enough PC charries we will bring in a second gold either through Impression or by Transfer. I have begun creating a forum for Starfall, but it's not complete yet so I'll hold off on positng the link for just a bit longer.
Kit hang on to those for a bit please. I'm quite sure I would lose them should I try to get them from you now, and the first hatching won't be immediate at Starfall, the Flight will be played out and then Searches etc, all before we get to the actual clutching and thereby pics.
